Although a three-sport student-athlete (football, men's basketball, and baseball), George "Rinso" Marquette made the biggest impact at Lebanon Valley College as a coach and administrator. After serving in World War II, he returned to play three sports, becoming the captain of the basketball team. He played professional baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization and then left baseball to earn a master's degree at Columbia before returning to LVC as the Director of Athletics and, baseball and basketball coach. In his first year Marquette coached the 1953 men's basketball team to the NCAA Sweet 16 and became the smallest school to ever make it that far in the NCAA Tournament (enrollment was just 400 students). He coached basketball until 1960 collecting a coaching record of 101-76 and was LVC's wins leader until the 1990's.
