During his time on the track team, Kershner scored more than one third of the points for the 1957 season with 131 points, breaking his own record. He additionally broke a school record for total points scored with 371 over the course of his four years. He was the first member of the track team to be awarded the Chuck Maston Award for exceptional qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, cooperation, and spirit after serving as team captain. Additionally, his jersey was retired. Kershner graduated from The Valley with a degree in Elementary Education.
