ANNVILLE, Pa. – Amber Corcoran, Lebanon Valley College's Head Field Hockey Coach, announced that
Angie Nelson was promoted to the first full-time Assistant Coach in program history after serving three years as the top assistant.
The Dutchmen have seen an increased progression in results on the field since Nelson joined the staff as LVC improved from a 7-10 record in her first year to a 15-4 record last fall. Nelson has helped the Dutchmen navigate a conference change as LVC moved from the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth to the MAC Freedom, where they have qualified for the conference tournament in the past two seasons, dropping heartbreakers in the semifinals each year. The Dutchmen have gone 5-2 during conference play each season after recording a 3-5 record in the final season as a member of the MAC Commonwealth.
Over the past three years, LVC has had 13 All-Conference honorees, while
Ella Weidenhammer was named the Defensive Player of the Year last fall. Ella and
Claire Weidenhammer, along with
Sorrell Long, also earned All-Region honors last season, becoming the first Dutchmen since 2019 to be honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Nelson was a standout midfielder at Division I Towson University, where she recorded 31 points on 10 goals and 11 assists in 75 career games and holds the record for career penalty strokes with five. Nelson earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Deaf Studies. She also earned a master's in Teaching English as a Second Language from Notre Dame College of Maryland. Additionally, Nelson has several certifications, including a Level II Hockey Coaching Certification, Pennsylvania Elementary Teaching Certification, and Maryland Elementary Teaching Certification. Before joining LVC's staff, Nelson was the Head Field Hockey Coach at Friends School of Baltimore from 2013 to 2021 and a Assistant Coach at Towson in 2011 and 2012. Besides coaching, Nelson also has experience playing competitively for club teams in Argentina, Malaysia, Spain, South Africa, and Peru.
