Lane Scores Twice in Dominate Home Opener

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Rebecca Lane scored her first two goals of the season to lead the Lebanon Valley field hockey team in a dominant 4-0 victory over visiting Wilson College on Wednesday evening in the team's home opener on the new turf at Arnold Field in Annville.
 
The Dutchmen (2-0) dominated from start to finish as they controlled possession for much of the game and kept the ball on their offensive side of the field for a large portion of time. Claire Weidenhammer took the first shot of the game in the fifth minute and had it blocked. LVC earned two penalty corners a minute later with Danika Setlock having her shot blocked on the first corner and then Weidenhammer just missed the cage on the second. The offense continued to press as Gracie Johnson put a shot wide and in the closing minutes of the quarter, Lane just missed the cage off a penalty corner attempt.
 
Abby Rodenberger began the second quarter of action with a shot on goal that was saved. The Dutchmen earned their fourth corner of the game close to a minute later and this time were able to score the first goal of the game. Johnson inserted the ball to Weidenhammer at the top of the circle. Weidenhammer passed the ball back to Johnson who sent a pass towards in towards the middle of the circle. Lane was there to redirect the pass into goal. The Dutchmen earned another corner in the 21st minute and Setlock sent a bullet in towards the cage that just sailed wide. A minute later, Lane had a shot saved as she tried to double the lead. The Dutchmen got off a couple of shots in the final five minutes of the quarter, but Setlock sent another shot wide, Jillian Tait had her attempt saved, and the Setlock had a shot blocked.
 
LVC came out of the halftime break strong as Lane sent a shot wide and then had another attempt saved. Joanna Ehrhart collected the rebound and sent a pass to the back post where Weidenhammer calmly sent the ball into the cage for her third goal of the year. Ehrhart and Setlock then had shots blocked before LVC earned a penalty stroke. Lane stepped up and fired the ball into the back of the cage for her second goal of the game to give the Dutchmen a 3-0 lead in the 35th minute. Setlock increased the lead a minute later as she collected a loose ball near the top of the circle and then fired a well-place shot into the left corner for her first career goal. The Dutchmen kept up the offense as Setlock, Rodenberger, and Lauren Foster all had shots blocked in the final five minutes of the quarter before Madison Brewer had a shot saved.
 
The fourth quarter began with Johnson getting a shot blocked and then Tait putting a shot wide. Tait put another shot wide before Weidenhammer missed wide off a corner. The Dutchmen earned three penalty corners in the final five minutes of the quarter and had shots by Brewer and Foster go wide. Lilah Shaub had a shot saved in the final minute as the Dutchmen closed out the win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Lane recorded the second multi-goal game of her career and first since the 2023 season. The senior took six total shots and put four on goal. Lane's second goal was the 15th of her career.
  • Weidenhammer scored for the second consecutive game on four total shots. The junior scored her 25th career goal in just her 34th game.
  • Setlock scored her first career goal on a team-high seven total shots.
  • Johnson recorded her first point of the year with an assist. The senior also took two shots.
  • Ehrhart recorded her first career point with an assist.
  • The Dutchmen did not allow Wilson to take a single shot and held a 31-0 shot advantage. LVC put 10 shots on goal. The Dutchmen also had a dominant 12-0 advantage in penalty corners.
  • LVC improved to 10-0 all-time against the Phoenix. They have not allowed a goal in the past three meetings over the last three years including a pair of 4-0 victories in Annville.

Lebanon Valley will begin a five-game road skid on Saturday with a trip to Gettysburg College. The Dutchmen and Bullets will faceoff at 12 p.m. at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
