ANNVILLE, Pa. – Ashley Bartels threw a career best in the hammer to qualify for the AARTFC Championships on Saturday in the first outdoor meet of the year for the Lebanon Valley women's track and field team. The Dutchmen had 17 MAC qualifiers in a mini meet against Albright College in Annville.
MAC QUALIFIERS
Darrian Berkheimer and
Tori Hunyara qualified for the MAC Championships in the 200 meters. Berkheimer ran 26.92 seconds to top the field while Hunyara was not too far behind her in 27.27 seconds. The Dutchmen also had two qualifiers in the high jump.
Melena Koutch topped the field with a height of 1.46 meters while
Carolina Wegman was second at 1.34 meters.
LVC had 13 throwing qualifiers in four events including four in both the shot put and hammer.
Lauren Assante,
Meghan Bussey, and
Caroline Reed qualified in both events while Bartels was a hammer qualifier and
Alyssa Betz qualified in the shot put. Assante topped the field in the shot put with a mark of 10.16 meters on her fourth and final throw. Betz was second with a mark of 10.09 meters on her second toss. Reed threw 9.83 meters on her third attempt and Bussey had a toss of 9.26 meters on her second throw. Bartels threw a career best 45.89 meters in the hammer on her second attempt to top the field. Assante was second with a mark of 38.45 meters on her second toss. Reed threw 34.14 meters on her first throw and Bussey had a mark of 26.36 meters on her fourth attempt.
Mackenze Spence and Betz were MAC qualifiers in the discus. Spence topped the field with a throw of 34.89 meters on her fourth attempt while Betz threw 34.10 meters on her fourth toss. All three javelin throwers qualified with
Kaitlyn Snyder leading the way with a toss of 33.51 meters on her first attempt.
Kayla Kauffman had a mark of 28.31 meters on her second throw and Bartels threw 27.79 meters on her first attempt.
INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
Bartels moved up from fourth to second in the hammer with a huge career best throw of 45.89 meters. Assante moved into the top 10 with a career best toss of 38.45 meters which is ninth.
The Dutchmen had two sprint medley relay teams that ran the fastest and fourth-fastest times in program history.
Alyssa Peiffer, Hunyara, Berkheimer, and
Lauren Bunke broke the school record of 4:22.43 with a time of 4:16.88. The team of Wegman, Julia Wawryznski,
Autumn Garges, and
Sierra Kapcsos ran 4:42.40.
