ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Corey Cinicola hit the walk-off single to end a wild 10-inning opener, and
Jason Barthold shut down Penn State Schuylkill in the nightcap to lead Lebanon Valley's sweep on Sunday.
The Dutchmen (11-6) won game one 6-5 after rallying back from a 5-2 hole in the sixth inning, and Barthold scattered four hits in the 7-1 game two victory as LVC recorded a six-run second. It was LVC's third extra-innings win in as many days after the Dutchmen beat Albright twice.
Phill Dohner recorded his 100th career hit with a bases-loaded double in the second game, and
Patrick Reagan earned his first career win in the opener.
Mike Specht had a 3-for-4 opening game, and
Tim Filer went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles in the twinbill to lead the offense.
Game OneLVC spotted Schuylkill a quick 3-0 lead in the first, but
Mike Specht's two-run double to deep center field cut the advantage to 3-2 in the bottom half of the frame.
The Lions padded their lead with a Jordan Blankenhorn single in the second and Ryan King's sacrifice fly in the fourth to lead 5-2, but LVC mounted a three-run rally in the sixth to catch up.
Tim Filer doubled in
Zach Smith, then came across on Dohner's two-bagger before
Brett Fundell tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
LVC had several opportunities to win it in extras, leaving two on in the eighth and the bases loaded in the ninth before finally breaking through in the 10th with a two-out rally. Fundell singled down the line and
Jordan Higgins walked, setting up Cinicola's single to plate Fundell from second and win the game.
Penn State Schuylkill's best chance was in the eighth when Josh Whalen reached on a fielder's choice and stole his way over to third before getting caught stealing home with two outs.
Starter
Jimmie Miller settled in after a tough first inning produced three Penn State Schuylkill runs, and freshman
Mike Wakalowski had a terrific one-hit, 3.2 IP relief stint into the ninth inning. Reagan (1-0) ended up with the win after pitching a perfect 10th with two strikeouts.
The Lions' King (8.0 IP, 5ER) took no decision with Blankenhorn (0-1) getting the loss with four walks surrendered over 1.2 innings.
Game TwoLebanon Valley used a six-run second inning to take control of the game while riding Barthold's quality start in a 7-1 win.
The Lions again took an early lead with King scoring on a passed ball and error in the first, but LVC batted around in the second to produce their lead. Dohner drove in two runs on a double for his 100th hit before Smith added a two-run single, and Filer's single ended the six-run spurt. Higgins tripled and scored off
Devin Dellinger's base hit in the fifth to complete the scoreline at 7-1.
Meanwhile, Barthold (2-0) was dominant, not allowing an earned run and giving up just one hit through five innings as he scattered four in the complete game effort. The most trouble he got in was in the seventh, when the Lions left the bases loaded after consecutive fly-outs ended the game.
Wade Bressler went the distance for Schuylkill, allowing seven earned and 10 hits.
Next TimeLVC will host Widener Monday in a make-up game at 3:30 p.m.
