Dutchmen Baseball Battles DeSales on Senior Day

ANNVILLE, Pa. ­­– Eight different players scored a run for the Lebanon Valley College baseball team, and eight members of the program's lineup tallied an RBI during the doubleheader against DeSales University on Sunday, April 26, at McGill Field. LVC battled valiantly in its final two games of the season while dropping 10-6 and 15-6 decisions. 

The Flying Dutchmen held Senior Day on Sunday, recognizing their nine seniors before the first matchup of the twin bill. The club honored Owen Berry, Spencer Butz, Jaden Click, Hayden Fravel, Jonathan Klein, Chris Langsdorf, Kyle McCracken, Kenny Palmieri, and Tyler Satterfield

Game One 
The Bulldogs (27-11, 17-3 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, taking a 7-0 lead on a two-run home run, a sacrifice fly, an RBI single, a two-run single, and a wild pitch. Parker Tarnoci then pitched a scoreless top of the second for the Dutchmen (15-23, 9-11 MAC Freedom), getting out of the frame with a flyout to Butz in center field to strand a runner at second base. LVC followed this by generating some traffic on the bases in the bottom of the second, as Butz singled to left-center field and Palmieri singled to right field. The seniors then executed a double steal, putting runners on second and third base.

Tarnoci also posted a zero for Lebanon Valley in the top of the third inning, recording the third out with a foul out to third baseman Daniel Palmieri to leave a runner at second base. The Flying Dutchmen kept battling at the plate in the bottom of the third, loading the bases with a double to left field by Berry and walks by Kody Phillips and Lucien Burger. DeSales then added a run in the top of the fourth, going up 8-0 on an error.

Tarnoci continued his strong relief outing for the Dutchmen with a shutout frame in the top of the fifth, notching the final two outs with a double play. Lebanon Valley got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, making it an 8-1 contest. Berry drew a walk with one out and advanced to second base on a groundout, and the senior later scored on Burger's RBI single to right field. Langsdorf then pitched a scoreless top of the sixth for LVC, logging the third out with a flyout to Burger in left-center to leave a runner at first. 

The Flying Dutchmen crossed the plate five times in the bottom of the sixth, narrowing the score to 8-6. Phillips came up to the plate with the bases loaded and drew a walk, bringing home Joey Santora. Mennillo then scored on a wild pitch. Butz later hit a two-run single through the left side and advanced to second on the throw, knocking in Berry and Phillips. Will Plappert also came through with an RBI double down the left-field line, driving in Butz. 

The Bulldogs countered with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, going up 10-6 after a pair of singles. Lebanon Valley proceeded to compete in the batter's box until the final out, as Devin Kreger hit a pinch-hit single and Mennillo drew a walk. Ultimately, the score was maintained through the end of the game.

Inside the Box Score
  • Butz tied a season-high three hits, drove in two runs, and scored a run. The senior also stole a base.  
  • Plappert tied a season-high two hits with a double, while knocking in a run. 
  • Berry hit a double, walked once, and scored a game-high two runs. 
  • Burger picked up a base hit, a walk, and an RBI. 
  • Phillips logged an RBI and a run scored, while tying a season-high two walks. 
  • Mennillo registered two hits, a walk, and a run scored. 
  • Santora was hit by a pitch and scored a run. 
  • Kenny Palmieri tallied a hit and a stolen base. 
  • Kreger picked up a base hit.
  • Lebanon Valley and DeSales both recorded 11 hits. 
  • Langsdorf pitched a scoreless inning of relief. 
  • Kyle McCracken struck out a batter. 
Game Two 
Starting pitcher Connor Smith tossed a 1-2-3 top of the first inning for Lebanon Valley (15-24, 9-12 MAC Freedom), picking up a strikeout in the process. The Dutchmen then opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, taking an early 1-0 lead over DeSales (28-11, 18-3 MAC Freedom). The rally began with two-out walks by Burger and Butz. Kenny Palmieri then delivered an RBI single up the middle, driving in Burger. The Bulldogs countered with an RBI double and an RBI single in the top of the second, taking a 2-1 advantage.

DeSales added a run in the top of the third inning, going up 3-1 on an error. Smith posted a zero for Lebanon Valley in the top of the fourth, retiring the side in order with a strikeout swinging, a groundout to Berry at shortstop, and a groundout to Mennillo up the middle. The Flying Dutchmen kept competing at the plate in the bottom of the fourth, as Kenny Palmieri hit a one-out single to center field. The Bulldogs followed this by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 6-1 lead on a two-run single and an RBI double. 

DeSales tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth, going ahead 10-1 during a frame that included two RBI singles, a sacrifice fly, and a steal of home. The Dutchmen answered right back with five runs in the bottom of the sixth, making it a 10-6 contest. Santora stepped into the batter's box with the bases loaded and hit an RBI single through the left side, plating Butz. Satterfield then drew a walk with the bases full, bringing home Kenny Palmieri. Mennillo was up next and reached base on an RBI fielder's choice to shortstop to knock in Plappert, and Santora also scored on the play on a throwing error by the second baseman. Later in the inning, Phillips came through with an RBI single to right field to drive in Mennillo. 

The Bulldogs countered with three runs in the top of the seventh inning, advancing the score to 13-6 on an RBI double, a balk, and an RBI single. Jaden Click then pitched a scoreless top of the eighth for Lebanon Valley, getting out of the frame when Mennillo threw out a runner attempting to steal home. The Dutchmen also created some traffic on the basepaths in the bottom of the eighth, as Phillips hit a two-out double to left field and Jacob Williams was hit by a pitch. DeSales later hit a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning, making it a 15-6 game. This would stand as the final score. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Burger logged a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a run scored. 
  • Berry picked up a base hit. 
  • Williams registered his first career hit-by-pitch. 
  • Smith struck out a game-high six batters. 
  • Sam Forry, Aidan Attivo, and Jack Johnson each had a strikeout. 
  • Click pitched a scoreless inning of relief. 
The Dutchmen concluded the 2026 season with their doubleheader against DeSales.
