ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley split with Albright on Saturday, winning the weekend series thanks to an extra-innings walk-off in the opener.
LVC (9-6, 3-2 CC) won 7-6 to start the day thanks to a three-run rally in the eighth, capped by
Tim Filer's winning single, but fell 7-5 in the nightcap after the Lions (4-6, 2-4 CC) put together a big sixth inning. The Dutchmen beat Albright, 3-2 in 10 innings, in the opener on Friday.
Home runs by
Eric Leymeister and
Corey Cinicola highlighted the offense for the Valley, and Cinicola (1-1) picked up the win in relief in game one. The senior went 5-for-7 for the day, and
Brett Fundell also sparked LVC at the plate with a 4-for-6 day, while Leymeister went 4-for-7 and
Zach Smith drove in three runs, including two in the eighth to tie game one.
Game One
LVC rallied back from deficits three times to win the opener 7-6, scoring three runs in the eighth after Albright put two across in the extra frame.
Albright put runs up in the third and fourth that LVC answered with a Leymeister double and Fundell's single in the bottom of the fourth, and after the Lions' Zac Okonski doubled in Nate Peiffer in the fifth, Leymeister smashed his first career home run to right, a two-run shot, to make it 4-3 Dutchmen.
The Lions rallied for the tying run in the seventh, however, when Peiffer knocked in Trey Hook, amd Medvecky's two-run single put them ahead 6-4 in the eighth as the two teams went to extras for the second straight day.
LVC responded with a two-out comeback in the bottom half, with
Phill Dohner's single loading the bases for Smith, who singled in a pair of runs to tie it before Filer drove a single to center to plate Dohner and walk off with the win.
Freshman
Casey Wall took the start for LVC and went four full with two runs allowed, with
Mike Specht and
Lee Webber splitting relief before Cinicola threw the eighth and ended up with the win.
Game Two
A five-run sixth by Albright doomed LVC in the nightcap as the Lions came back to win 7-5.
LVC carried a 1-1 tie into the fifth thanks to Cinicola's second-inning RBI single, then took the lead with Smith's sacrifice fly to plate
Mike Puglisi in the fifth.
The Lions were helped by a pair of errors on sacrifice bunt attempts in the sixth, scoring five runs keyed by Evan High's two-run bases-loaded double. That ended the day for starter
Corey Sell (1-1), and Pat Reagan ended the threat with a strikeout on Micah Storms.
Cinicola's two-run shot followed
Mike Specht's triple in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-4, but Albright added an insurance run in the seventh on Okonski's single. The Valley tried to mount another sudden-death comeback, pulling a run back with
Jordan Higgins' single, but ultimately left the bases loaded in the seventh.
Sell went 5.2 innings and did not allow an earned run; Daniel Louviaux (1-0) earned the win with 5.2 innings of work with Trevor Mastria picking up the save.
Next Time
LVC hosts Penn State Schuylkill for two on Sunday.
