Dutchmen Come Back To Beat Catholic, 7-6

Box Score Baseball
Lebanon Valley 7, Catholic 6

ANNVILLE, Pa. - A five-run rally in the eighth helped Lebanon Valley overcome a 6-2 deficit and beat Catholic, 7-6, at McGill Field on Sunday.

The Dutchmen (8-16) took advantage of four Cardinal (18-10) errors to score five unearned runs in the game. Lee Webber pitched a superb four-inning, one-hit stint in relief of Derek Brousseau to pick up the win.

Catholic's Nick Clary put the visitors up with an RBI single in the first, but Glenn Dietrich's sacrifice fly tied it an inning later. Chris McCloud homered to left to score two runs in the third, and two Dutchmen errors in the fifth led to three more Catholic runs, all unearned.

LVC brought a run back in the bottom of that frame when Brousseau doubled in Andrew DeCew, and that put the Dutchmen in striking position for their eighth-inning rally. After Tim Filer led off with a triple, Jordan Higgins knocked him in and reached on an error. Corey Cinicola drew a two-out walk and Brett Fundell was beaned to load the bases, and that set up DeCew's two-run double to the gap to cut the lead to 6-5. One batter later, Brousseau blooped a single over third, plating DeCew and Ethan Klink to put LVC up 7-6.

Webber then had to work out of a jam in the ninth, ringing up John Palladino to end the game with runners on first and second. It capped a terrific appearance for Webber, who whiffed five over four innings and allowed just three baserunners. The Cardinals combined five pitchers, with Dustin Hanley being hooked for the loss in two-thirds of an inning of work. Starter Colin Kelly allowed one hit and an unearned run in three innings.

The Dutchmen will return to action Wednesday at home against Susquehanna. Note that Tuesday's game Neumann has been postponed due to a conference conflict for the Knights.
