GRANTHAM, Pa. - A day after LVC's wild 30-14 win over Messiah, the series doubleheader turned decidedly in favor of the pitchers as Messiah won by 5-1 and 1-0 scorelines.
The Dutchmen (7-16, 3-8 CC) fell victim to a pair of complete games by Falcon (8-16) pitching as Jon Lapp won the opener and Steven Ridings allowed four hits to outduel
Phill Dohner in the second.
Mike Specht drove in LVC's only run of the day, doubling in
Corey Cinicola in the fourth inning of game one to give LVC a 1-0 lead. Messiah did all of its damage in the sixth, manufacturing five runs capped by Brubaker's two-run single; three of the runs were unearned after an error.
Austin Hornberger (3-2) was hooked for the loss, going 5.2 and striking out three.
Lee Webber finished the sixth to get out of trouble. Lapp (4-2) struck out five while allowing the single unearned run.
Game two was a pitcher's duel between Ridings and Dohner, with each team managing just four hits. Ridings fanned nine as he rode Lapp's second-inning RBI single while facing four over the minimum.
Derek Brousseau, Dohner,
Tim Filer, and
Jordan Higgins had hits for the Valley.
LVC returns home to McGill Field Sunday to host Catholic at 1 p.m.
