Lebanon Valley 3, Westminster 1
FORT PIERCE, Fla. -
Jimmie Miller tossed a complete-game gem to win the backside of a doubleheader as Lebanon Valley split with Westminster, 3-4 and 3-1, Tuesday in Florida.
The Dutchmen (2-4) couldn't hold off a seventh-inning rally by the Titans (5-1) in the first game, but rode Miller's strong outing and a three-run sixth to win 3-1 in the second game.
Derek Brousseau collected his 100th career hit, getting on base three times.
Both teams put two across in the first inning of game 1 as early RBIs by Kyle Allen and Ty Miller put Westminster up 2-0 in the top half before Dylan Tameki and
Jordan Higgins drove in
John Hildebrand and
Phill Dohner in the bottom half. LVC went up 3-2 in the third when Brousseau, after a lead-off double, came in on Dohner's single, but the Dutchmen managed just one hit the rest of the way as Andy Wallen went the distance for the Titans. Westminster put a run across in the sixth to tie it, and Allen's lead-off double in the seventh led to his winning run on Miller's single two batters later.
Corey Cinicola threw six and two-thirds and allowed four earned;
Lee Webber finished the game with a walk and a strikeout.
In game 2, it was all Miller as the junior southpaw threw an efficient 81 pitches, striking out six while scattering five hits. The Titans scored their lone run in the second, but LVC had three in the sixth thanks to
Tim Filer's one-run knock and Cinicola's two-RBI double later in the inning. Kyle Borton went the distance for Westminster in the loss.
LVC will play Susquehanna University Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
