Stevenson 11, Lebanon Valley 7
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson brought its bats out for the finale of its weekend series with Lebanon Valley, sweeping the doubleheader with 12-1 and 11-7 wins at McGill Field.
In the opener, the Mustangs (16-7) were led by a superb outing from Greg Myers; in the nightcap, the Dutchmen (5-14) bats began to heat up, but a three-run fifth by Stevenson put the game out of reach.
In game one, Myers and
Austin Hornberger dueled through the opening innings until Stevenson put three on the board in both the third and fourth innings. The Mustangs later put six runs through in the sixth, buoyed by Ben Hallam's pinch-hit three-run home run. The Dutchmen got a run back in their last at-bat as
Ethan Klink recorded his first career RBI with a single up the middle to plate
Andrew DeCew.
Hornberger (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going five and striking out three.
Patrick Reagan and
Brent McDowell split the remainder in relief. Myers scattered five hits and struck out eight.
In game two, Stevenson appeared to pick up where they left off, scoring five in the top of the first with back-to-back two-run hits by Hallam and Bret Schilling, but LVC responded with four in the bottom of the frame.
Dylan Tamecki started off the scoring with a single to score
Mike Specht, and
Tim Filer scored on an error before DeCew knocked in two runs with a single to the left-center gap.
Filer's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second canceled out a run by the Mustangs in the top of the inning, but the visitors manufactured three runs in the fifth to take an 11-5 lead. LVC tried to rally with two outs in the seventh as
Corey Cinicola homered to right, but Brooks Miller closed out the complete game for SU.
Miller struck out three and gave up five earned in the win;
Brett Fundell (0-2) lasted two innings, with
Lucas Gienow pitching three innings of relief and Cinicola finishing with two scoreless innings.
LVC will visit Wilkes on Monday.
