Lebanon Valley 18, Albright 8
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Strong winds and heavy bats carried Lebanon Valley to its first Commonwealth Conference win in an 18-8 rout over Albright Friday night.
The Dutchmen (4-8, 1-1 CC) used four lopsided innings to tax the Lions' bullpen and run away with the game. Seven players in the team's starting lineup picked up hits, and six of them had multiple hit games.
Derek Brousseau and
Dylan Tamecki both finished with perfect games at the plate. Brousseau drew three walks, but the Lions (6-4, 0-1) would prefer those appearances to his others. He hit the team's first homerun of the season into the winds carrying to right and doubled. Tamecki finished 5-for-5 with three doubles and a walk.
Brousseau drove in four runs and scored another three, but it was
Phill Dohner who posted the greatest impact on the scoreboard. Dohner hit two triples, knocked in five RBIs, and scored three runs.
The first onslaught of Dutchmen offense came in the bottom of the fourth.
Andrew DeCew put the team on the board with an RBI single. Dohner struck the biggest blow with a two-run triple – his first of the game to give LVC a 3-0 lead.
Tim Filer and Tamecki both knocked in runs before the rally was through.
The Dutchmen added four runs in the next inning on two big, timely swings of the bat. Brousseau knocked in a pair with a single through the right side. He stole second to give Dohner runners on second and third with two outs, and Dohner capitalized with a two-run sac fly.
After a scoreless sixth, LVC scored five in the seventh and four more in the eighth to further widen the gap. Brousseau's homer came in the seventh with a man on. It lofted half on power and half on strong gusts that continuously carried out toward the bridge. Dohner tripled and scored on a passed ball, and
Jordan Higgins smashed a bases loaded, two-run double to left three batters later to give LVC a 14-5 lead.
The Dutchmen pieced together four hits and two walks in the eighth for their final four runs. Dohner, Filer, Tamecki, and Higgins each picked up RBIs.
Freshman righty
Austin Hornberger made his home field debut, pitching 6.1 innings with seven hits and three walks allowed. Just two of the five runs surrendered in his time were earned, and he countered with four strikeouts. The win improves his record to 3-0.
Saturday's doubleheader is set for noon at Albright.
