Lebanon Valley 2, DeSales 14
ANNVILLE, Pa. – It wasn't the home opener that Lebanon Valley wanted, but a 14-2 loss to DeSales is what the team walked away with Wednesday night.
The Dutchmen (3-7) looked to be in good position early on as starter Eric Dillard struggled in his command over the first two innings for the Bulldogs (5-4). LVC got on the board with a bases loaded walk that plated
Derek Brousseau in the first without posting a single hit in the frame.
The game imploded in the top of the sixth, when DeSales piled on eight runs against a combination of starter
Corey Cinicola and relievers
Jason Barthold and
Mike Specht. The Bulldogs added five more runs in the next inning and another in the seventh.
Jordan Higgins picked up the biggest hit of the game for LVC, smashing an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, but DeSales negated it in the next inning with another run of its own.
LVC scattered eight hits and left 14 total men on base.
Dylan Tamecki and
John Hildebrand had two hits each in the loss.
Cinicola earned the loss for LVC. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four runs – three earned – on six hits and three walks.
The Dutchmen open Commonwealth Conference play at Widener Friday at 3:30 p.m. and host the Pride in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
