Baseball Shuts Out Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley got on the board early and continued to rally behind strong pitching for a 5-0 shutout at Susquehanna Wednesday afternoon.

The Crusaders (14-22) committed eight errors over the course of the game, though just three came during innings in which the Dutchmen (24-15) plated runs.

Aaron Mills drove in the team's first run in the top of the first on a single through the right side with two on and one out. Two batters later, Phill Dohner reached on a fielding error, which in turn cost the Crusaders a run.

Jordan Witmer singled to open the fifth inning and helped manufacture a run by advancing on a passed ball and a groundout. He scored on an RBI single to left by Jacob Rhody to give the Dutchmen a 3-0 lead.

John Hildebrand reached on an error in eighth and later came around to score on a single to center by Colt Zarilla. Zarilla came home on a single up the middle by Jordan Witmer. He advanced on the throw and scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.

Witmer led the offense, hitting 3 for 5 with two runs. Rhody and Zarilla both finished 2 for 5 with an RBI each. Zarilla scored one run.

Caleb Fick (4-1) earned the win, having thrown five scoreless innings for LVC. He allowed four hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Cody Richard, Zack Rex, Brent McDowell, and Lee Webber each pitched scoreless innings in relief.

The Dutchmen will close out the regular season Thursday at Gettysburg at 3:30 p.m.
