Lebanon Valley 20, Albright 10
READING, Pa. - Lebanon Valley continued its push for a playoff spot albeit in some very uncharacteristic ways.
Caleb Fick suffered an uncharacteristically rough outing as the team's starting pitcher, but it didn't matter. He got 20 runs of support, including four homeruns.
Lebanon Valley used 14 hits, seven walks, and five Albright errors to mount the win over the Lions Friday afternoon.
Colt Zarilla,
Aaron Mills,
Jacob Rhody, and
Phill Dohner each homered in the effort. It was the first time since April 16, 2003 that a Dutchmen team hit four in a game.
Three of those four batters recorded multihit games. Mills had a 4-for-5 night with four runs and an RBI. Zarilla finished 3 for 5 with three runs and three RBIs. Rhody finished 2 for 4 with three runs and four RBIs.
Dohner's three-run shot came during a seven-run ninth inning. He was held hitless through the preceding eight innings but managed to finish with three runs and five RBIs.
Dohner notched his first RBIs in the second on a two-run error trying to lay a sac bunt. He scored on a groundout by
Jordan Higgins to give LVC a 3-0 lead.
Mills smashed a solo homer in the third that gave the team a 4-0 edge.
After surrendering five runs over the next two innings, the Dutchmen got three runs in the fifth, including a two-run blast by Rhody to recapture a 7-5 lead.
The scoring continued, as the Lions posted three more runs over the bottoms of the fifth and sixth innings. LVC struck back in a major way in the seventh with six runs, including Zarilla's three-run homerun and an RBI sac fly by
John Hildebrand.
After allowing two more runs, they sealed a win with the win with a monstrous seven-run ninth that featured back-to-back hits by Rhody and Dohner. With the bases loaded, Rhody hit a two-run single. Dohner immediately followed with the big three-run homerun.
Hildebrand finished the night 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI.
Fick pitched 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs - six earned - on nine hits and three walks. He struck out two.
Jason Barthold (5-0) earned his team-high fifth win of the season in relief. He pitched the final 4.1 innings and all three runs - one earned - on five hits and two walks. He struck out a career-high five batters.
The Dutchmen (21-15, 8-8 CC) will host the Lions (12-21, 4-9) in the final two conference games of their regular season Saturday at 11 a.m. It's also Senior Day, when the team will honor its 11 graduating seniors.
