ANNVILLE, Pa. - Phill Dohner led an offensive stampede by Lebanon Valley with a career-high five hits in Wednesday's 13-4 win over Delaware Valley College. Dohner scored two runs and drove in four more while improving his season average 33 percentage points to .273.
After allowing four runs in the third, the Dutchmen (20-15) grew relentless in their pursuit of a win. Dohner doubled in the first run in the bottom of the third, plating
Aaron Mills from first base.
The team made an enormous push in the next inning with six runs.
Ryan Schwartz singled up the middle with two on and one out to score
Tim Filer, prompting a pitching change for Delaware Valley (13-16).
Reliever Tyler Frounfelker did his team proud, striking out
Derek Brousseau with two runners still on base. But
Jordan Witmer loaded the bases with a two out single and all three runners advanced on a wild pitch to put the Dutchmen within a run of the Aggies. Frounfelker then walked
Aaron Mills and allowed a bases-loaded, two run single by Dohner to give LVC its first lead of the night at 5-4.
Colt Zarilla drove in another pair of runs on a single to left-center to press the lead to 7-4.
The Dutchmen sured up the win with three-run rallies in the sixth and eighth innings. With runners on second and third in the sixth,
Jordan Higgins hit an RBI single to center that put Dohner on third. Higgins was picked off between first and second, allowing Dohner to sneak home for another run. Filer followed with a walk and came around to score on a throwing error.
The Dutchmen combined four hits and an error to score their final three runs in the eighth. Schwartz and Dohner each had RBI singles; Mills earned an RBI on a bases-loaded groundout.
Schwartz finished 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Witmer, Zarilla, and Filer each posted two hits. Filer and Mills both scored three runs.
Jimmie Miller made the start for LVC but pitched just 2.1 innings. He allowed four runs - two earned - on two hits and two walks. Two runners were aboard when he was pulled in favor of
Brent McDowell (3-0), who earned the win for 2.2 innings pitched. He allowed two hits and a walk without allowing a run.
The Dutchmen got to Aggies starter Mike Kearney (2-2) early, forcing his exit after just 3.1 innings pitched. He earned the loss for allowing four earned runs on six hits and four walks.
LVC plays at Albright Friday at 3:30 p.m.
