ANNVILLE, Pa. -  The fact that Caleb Fick walked off the mound without a win Friday against Alvernia felt almost criminal. Fick was robbed of a win when the Crusaders plated five runs in the top of the ninth.

Fick was working on a complete-game shutout. He entered the ninth with a 4-0 lead but was forced out in favor of reliever Lee Webber with two outs and his team trailing by a run.

But Fick can take solace, knowing that his team has his back. Phill Dohner led off in the bottom of the inning and came around to score on a double to right-center by Derek Brousseau. Brousseau scored the winning run on a walk-off single to right by Jordan Witmer.

Extending back through his shutout against Elizabethtown on April 5, Fick pitched 17 straight scoreless innings.

The Dutchmen built their initial lead in a four-run fifth inning. Witmer walked in the first run with the bases loaded.  Dohner scored on a wild pitch by Alvernia starter Andrew Kirk that left runners on second and third. Mills hit an RBI single to right and Jacob Rhody doubled down the left field line to give the Dutchmen a 4-0 lead.

Witmer's game winner came against Alvernia reliever Kevin Becker-Mend (4-1), who entered the game with a daunting 0.00 ERA. He had not allowed a run through his first 11 appearances this season.

Fick threw 122 pitches but earned no decision. Instead, Webber (2-1) picked up the win for forcing the final out of the game.

Witmer finished 3 for 4 on the day with a run and two RBIs. Dohner hit 2 for 4 with a pair of runs - both of which had him sliding underneath tags.

Aaron Mills extended his current hitting streak to nine games with his RBI single in the fifth.

The series continues with a doubleheader at Alvernia Saturday at noon.
