Misericordia Fends Off Dutchmen Comeback Rally

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Down 5-1, Lebanon Valley made a three-run push in the bottom of the ninth against Misericordia Thursday but to no avail.

The Cougars (9-1) took a 4-0 lead with runs in the first and third and two more in the top of the fourth inning.

Derek Brousseau singled and came around to score on a Colt Zarilla single for LVC's first run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Dutchmen (3-4) got runs from Phillip Dohner, Ryan Schwartz, and Zarilla during their final push. Dohner led off and was plunked with a pitch. Schwartz smacked back-to-back singles. Jacob Rhody walked, forcing in a run; Jordan Witmer and Aaron Mills sent the final two runs home on a single and sac fly, respectively.

Freshman righty Matthew McMonagle made the start on the mound for LVC but pitched just two innings. He allowed a run on one hit and three walks.

Ian Younker, Brent McDowell, and Zack Rex divided the remaining innings. Younker allowed three runs over the third and fourth innings. Rex allowed the final run which was unearned.

LVC plays Penn State Behrend Friday at 9 a.m. in the final game of the spring break trip.
