Lebanon Valley 5, Arcadia 6
PHILADELPHIA - A two-run surge in the bottom of the ninth allowed Arcadia to beat Lebanon Valley, 6-5, Friday afternoon in game one of a home-and-home conference set.
Caleb Fick pitched eight innings in a quality start, allowing four runs - two earned - on 12 hits and one walk. He struck out three batters. He received a no decision, as
Zack Rex (1-1) earned the loss and
Brent McDowell pitched for the final out.
Down 1-0 heading into the top of the fourth,
Colt Zarilla led off with a single to center. He advanced on a single by
Aaron Mills and a fielder's choice by
Jacob Rhody and scored unearned when
Tim Filer reached on an error.
Derek Brousseau gave the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead later in the inning on a bases-loaded walk that plated Rhody.
The Dutchmen (11-10, 3-4 CC) headed into the top of the fifth down 3-2 but were able to put another pair of runs on the board to take their second lead.
Ryan Schwartz led off with a walk and scored on an RBI triple by Mills.
Jordan Witmer sent Mills home from third on a sac fly and put LVC up 4-3.
Brousseau hit an RBI single to score Rhody in the top of the eighth for LVC's final run, but the Knights (8-13, 3-4) scored in the bottom of the frame and twice more in the ninth for a win.
With a pair of hits, Schwartz extended his current hitting streak to 12 games.
Both teams will travel to Annville for a doubleheader Saturday at noon. It's
Cystic Fibrosis Day at McGill Field. The team will raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through donations and a silent auction.
