Early-Inning Hit Parade Helps LVC Down Marywood

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley had a 6-0 lead by the fourth inning, and that proved enough to overtake Marywood in a 6-5 win Monday.

Eight Dutchmen batters had a hit in the game; six posted multiple-hit games.

Jacob Rhody opened the team's first scoring drive with a two-out single in the top of the second. He advanced to second on a single by Tim Filer and scored on another by John Hildebrand. Filer followed him home on a botched throw during the play.

Ryan Schwartz and Colt Zarilla opened the third inning with back-to-back singles. Schwartz was caught stealing but allowed Zarilla to advance to second. He scored on a double by Aaron Mills. Mills scored on a single down the left field line by Jordan Witmer.

LVC (10-9) posted its final runs in the top of the fourth. Derek Brousseau smacked a one-out single to second base. He stole second and advanced to third on a single by Schwartz. Zarilla singled in Brousseau and advanced Schwartz to third on a single. Schwartz scored on a sac fly by Mills.

Marywood (13-7) scored two runs in the fourth, one in the sixth, and two in the eighth to keep the final score close.

Jimmie Miller (1-2) pitched six innings for the win. He allowed three unearned runs on five hits and three walks. Caleb Fick earned his second save for pitching the final two innings.

Jason Aikens (1-2) allowed six runs - five earned - on 11 hits for the loss.
