Lebanon Valley 6, Penn State Berks 3

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Jordan Witmer smashed three doubles to lead Lebanon Valley past Penn State Berks, 6-3, Sunday afternoon.

Phillip Dohner had another banner day, finishing with two runs for LVC. He got aboard in the first inning on a hit-by-pitch, stole second, advanced on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch.

Aaron Mills singled up the middle two batters later and scored on Witmer's first double – a shot to the right field wall. Witmer advanced on a botched pickoff attempt and scored on a second wild pitch by Berks' starter Ryan Tantala.

The Dutchmen held a 3-0 lead into the third inning, when Berks' Kevin Heilman singled and came around to score.

Witmer led off the bottom of the fourth with his second double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on the first suicide squeeze of the season – a perfect bunt to the first base side by
Jacob Rhody.

Berks added a run in the fifth but had it essentially negated by Dohner in the bottom of the frame. Dohner led off with a triple – his team-leading fourth of the season – and scored on yet another wild pitch.

Tantala pitched six innings and totaled four wild pitches, which all proved costly. Berks added a run in the seventh but ultimately couldn't keep a loss off Tantala's record.

Mills walked with one out in the eighth and scored a final insurance run on Witmer's third double – a deep drive to center field.

Freshman lefty
Jason Barthold pitched five innings for the win. He allowed just two runs on six hits and three walks, striking out four.
Jimmie Miller and
Ian Younker threw in relief. Younker earned his first save after allowing just one hit over three innings of work.
Sunday marked the first time that Berks has ever played in Annville. The two teams met for the first time last season in Reading, where the Nittany Lions swept the Dutchmen in a doubleheader.
The Dutchmen play at Messiah Monday at 3:30 p.m.
