Elizabethtown Claims 4-3 Win Over Baseball

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Lebanon Valley baseball's late inning rally fell short as Elizabethtown claimed a 4-3 win Friday evening. Tallying 11 hits to Elizabethtown's eight, LVC had four players post two hits. Aaron Mills, Jacob Rhody, and Andrew Germann recorded the RBI for the Dutchmen.

LVC struck early with one run in the first. Derek Brousseau hit a leadoff triple, but was tagged out in an attempt to stretch the run to home. Ryan Schwartz continued, hitting a single up the middle and stealing second. He went on to score off a single to left center by Rhody.

Elizabethtown fought back, tallying two runs in the bottom of the inning. A double to center by Dillon Tagle scored both runs.

The teams remained scoreless through the next six innings before trading runs in the eighth. Brousseau again started things off with a one-out double to left. After forcing a fly out for the second out, Mills registered a double down the left field line to score Brousseau. The Blue Jays took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning off a single to right by Matt Reade.

Germann tied the game in the ninth, with a single to right scoring Jordan Higgins. Elizabethtown opened the bottom of the ninth reaching on an error. Kevin Berkheiser went on to score the winning run off a sacrifice fly to center.

Caleb Fick started and pitched seven and one-thirds innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out four batters, while Jake Becker closed out the game.

The Dutchmen close out the regular season and three game series against the Blue Jays Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Lebanon Valley must win both games Saturday in order to secure a spot in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs.
