ANNVILLE, Pa. – A strong second inning led Lebanon Valley baseball to a 10-5 win over Susquehanna Tuesday afternoon for its seventh straight win.
Dustin Deibert led the team at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Deibert,
Aaron Mills, and
Jacob Rhody paced the Dutchmen offensively with two RBI each.
The Dutchmen exploded for eight runs in the second inning.
Jordan Higgins started the inning with single, moved to second on a passed ball, and scored off a single by
Kyle Wenger.
Kevin Greene tallied a single and a hit from
Derek Brousseau scored one. Loading the bases,
Ryan Schwartz drew a walk.
Mills' sacrifice fly sent one run home and Rhody scored two runs with a double to left center. Deibert's first home run of the season tallied two runs and
Jordan Higgins continued with his first career home run to finish the scoring.
Two more runs in the third inning gave Lebanon Valley a 10-0 lead. Greene hit a single to right and Brousseau followed with a double to left field. A passed ball sent Greene home and advanced Brousseau to third. The second run came off a single to right by Mills.
Susquehanna broke up the shutout in the sixth with one run scoring. Ty Raubenstine drew a two out walk, stole second, and rounded the bases on a single to left by Justin Portzline.
The Crusaders threatened in the seventh with a runner rounding third for home on a single to left, when a heads up play from Wenger to cutoff man Greene, who threw to home for the out. Susquehanna went on to score one later in the inning off a single to left by Ben Anderson.
Portzline added two runs in the eighth for Susquehanna with a solo home run to left center and a double to left by Ken Kayama. A solo homer from Gregg Uhlak scored the fifth run of the game for Susquehanna in the ninth.
Brousseau started on the mound for LVC, pitching five innings. He allowed just two hits and struck out three.
Ian Younker tossed the sixth inning, giving up one run, while
Jake Becker took over in the seventh and allowed one run on three hits.
Corey Cinicola pitched the eighth, giving up one run and striking out one, while
Cody Richard finished the game.
The Dutchmen travel to Elizabethtown on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. game, beginning a three game series. Closing out the regular season on Saturday, LVC will honor its five seniors prior to the 12 p.m. start.
