Baseball Sweeps Albright To Take Series

READING, Pa. – Tallying 33 combined hits, Lebanon Valley baseball cruised to two wins over Albright Sunday afternoon. Claiming the series, the Dutchmen posted a 7-4 win in the opening contest and finished with a 13-2 victory.

Colt Zarilla paced the Dutchmen in game one with a team-high two RBI, while Aaron Mills led the squad at the plate with three hits in four at-bats.

Mills continued his success in the nightcap, notching a team-best four RBI and going 2-for-3 at the plate. Jacob Rhody and Jordan Witmer both tallied home runs, their second homers of the season.

LVC tallied 10 or more hits in each of the three games in the series against Albright, including 12 in Sunday's second game.

GAME ONE
The Lions put up two runs in the first inning for an early lead. Nate Peiffer opened with a lead-off single and scored on a triple to right center from Justin Danser. Albright extended its advantage to three runs with a solo homer from Peiffer in the third inning.

Lebanon Valley responded in the fourth, scoring one run. Mills opened with a triple to right field and scored off a groundout by Zarilla. The teams went on to trade runs in the sixth inning. Ryan Schwartz started the inning with a single and crossed home plate after a double to center by Zarilla. Albright's Jojo Fischer reached base with a double to left and scored off a sacrifice fly for the 4-2 lead.

Heading to the seventh inning, the Dutchmen registered five runs for the win. John Hildebrand reached base on an error and Dustin Adam singled to right. Another error by the Lions sent Schwartz to first while scoring one. Mills continued the inning with a single through the right side and an error scored two more runs along with putting Rhody on first. With a 6-4 lead, Dustin Deibert finished the scoring, hitting a single through the right side.

Nate Blough picked up his team-leading third win of the season for the Dutchmen. Pitching the complete game, he allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out two.

GAME TWO
Seven strong innings from Caleb Fick led LVC to a 13-2 win. Tossing the complete game, Fick limited the Lions to two runs on eight hits and struck out three.

Albright again scored in the opening frame. Peiffer started with a double and scored after a single up the middle. The Dutchmen responded in the second with Rhody's lead-off home run to center field. The Lions regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, going up 2-1.

Lebanon Valley battled back and held Albright scoreless for the remainder. A sacrifice fly from Mills in the third inning tied the score at two, before the Dutchmen took a one run lead in the fifth inning. Mills posted his second RBI, sending Derek Brousseau home on a single through the right side.

Two more runs in the sixth inning put LVC up 5-2. Opening the inning, Rhody reached first on an error. Deibert singled on a bunt and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly from Witmer scored Rhody, while a groundout sent Deibert home.

LVC sealed the win in the seventh inning, registering eight runs. Mills hit a two-RBI single to right, Rhody scored a run off a single, and a groundout by Deibert recorded the fourth run of the inning. A two-run homer from Witmer, and singles by Brousseau and Schwartz sent the final two runners across home plate.

The Dutchmen host Johns Hopkins Monday for a single game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
