FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Lebanon Valley baseball got back on the winning track with a 9-6 victory over Northwestern (Minn.) Wednesday.
Derek Brousseau led the Dutchmen to victory in his first appearance on the mound this season.
Brousseau pitched all nine innings, giving up three earned runs while striking out a career-high nine batters. Leading the offense was
Jacob Rhody and
Aaron Mills. Rhody went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, while Mills was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.
Scoring early,
Colt Zarilla got things started with a single and advanced on the play when the pitcher threw wide in a pickoff attempt. A single from Rhody sent Zarilla home for the 1-0 lead. Northwestern responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take a one run advantage.
LVC regained the lead in the third.
Tim Filer led off and was hit by a pitch and a few errors by Northwestern advanced him along the bases. Mills sent two more runners home with a triple and Rhody hit a double to score the final run of the inning.
Jordan Witmer, Mills, and Zarilla added RBIs in the fifth and sixth innings for the win.
LVC returns to action Thursday at 12:30 p.m. with a game against Penn State Behrend.
