Baseball Falls To Messiah

Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Lebanon Valley baseball dropped a 4-1 decision to Messiah Friday afternoon at Starry Field to open the three-game series with the Falcons. Senior Grant Wiest batted in the only run for the Dutchmen and freshman Derek Brousseau went 3-for-4 at the plate.

With the loss, the Dutchmen (22-12, 9-7 CC) must win one of the games in tomorrow's doubleheader against the Falcons (19-16, 88 CC) in order to claim the final spot in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs.

Lebanon Valley reached the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the fourth inning. Sophomore Jacob Rhody opened with a double, and a single from Wiest scored the run.

The Dutchmen had a chance to add to their lead in the sixth inning with two walks and a single loading the bases. Messiah's Tory Arnesen struck out the final batter to escape the bases loaded jam.

Messiah scored two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to record the win and stay alive in the playoff hunt.

Junior Caleb Fick pitched the complete game for LVC. He allowed four runs on eight hits through eight innings of work, and struck out five.

LVC closes out the three-game series at home on Saturday with the doubleheader set to begin at 12 p.m. The games are the final two contests at McGill Field this season, and LVC's two seniors will be honored prior to the start of the first game.
