Baseball Splits With Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley baseball split a doubleheader with Alvernia Saturday afternoon at Angelica Park. The Dutchmen recorded a 3-1 victory in the first game and fell 5-0 in the nightcap. Freshman Derek Brousseau and sophomore Dylan Holland both went 2-for-3 at the plate in game one, while Jordan Witmer was 2-for-2 in the second game.

GAME ONE
Alvernia scored its only run in the first inning with a ground out scoring a runner from third.

The Crusaders held a 1-0 lead until the fifth inning when the Dutchmen scored a run to tie the game. Witmer and Holland opened with singles and a fielder's choice sent sophomore Ryan Schwartz to first while forcing Witmer out at third. A groundout to short by sophomore Aaron Mills scored Holland.

Lebanon Valley posted two runs in the sixth to claim a 3-1 lead. Senior Grant Wiest singled to start the inning and sophomore Jacob Rhody reached on an error. A fielder's choice allowed sophomore Dustin Deibert to take first base while forcing Wiest out. A single from Brousseau scored one run and a fielder's choice sent another run home.

Junior Shane Specht pitched all seven innings for the Dutchmen, allowing one run on five hits and striking out four.

GAME TWO
The Crusaders scored two runs in the third and fourth innings and tacked on another run in the sixth to claim the 5-0 win. Lebanon Valley tallied just four hits, including two from Witmer in the loss.

Junior Nate Blough pitched all six innings for LVC, allowing eight hits and striking out two.

LVC travels to Gettysburg on Tuesday for a game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
