WEST LAWN, Pa. - Lebanon Valley allowed 10 unearned runs as it was bounced from the Commonwealth Conference playoffs with a 12-1 loss to Elizabethtown College Friday.
The Dutchmen (19-21-1) came into the game averaging more than seven runs a game, but were stymied by E-town's Adam Hartzell (7-2), who allowed one run and struck out five in six and two-thirds. LVC scored just three runs in their two playoff games.
Elizabethtown moves on to face either Widener or Albright tonight.
Shane Specht (3-4) went just two innings, allowing 10 runs, although only one was earned in a huge 10-run E-town second inning.
After scoring a run on Anthony Heaps' sacrifice fly in the second, the Blue Jays proceeded to reel off nine unearned runs in a rally following Ryan Schwartz's throwing error.
The Blue Jays tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth inning to cap the rout, while LVC ruined the shutout with Brandon Stoothoff's pinch-hit single in the seventh.
