Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Albright College rode a strong complete-game effort by Casey Lawrence as it cruised to an 8-3 win against Lebanon Valley College Thursday at McGill Field.
The Dutchmen (14-14-1, 5-2) managed just six hits off Lawrence (5-1) while the Lions (11-12-1, 2-5 CC) won the series opener with solid hitting top-to-bottom.
Shane Specht (2-3) gave up five earned runs in seven innings, with Pete Moro and
Bobby Kinsman each throwing an inning of relief.
Jason Dunkelberger sparked Albright's offense with a massive solo home run in the second to the steps of Fasick Bridge, and Kevin Butler added an RBI single later in the inning to go up 2-0.
Albright made it 4-0 in the third with Joe Clark's two-run triple, but LVC pulled a run back in the sixth when
Colt Zarilla smacked a double to the gap to plate
Grant Wiest.
Things came apart for the Dutchmen in the seventh, however, as Albright managed to score three runs without a hit in the inning. After back-to-back walks to start the inning, Danser moved both runners over with a bunt, and Dunkelberger plated Butler with a sacrifice fly. Tommy Canuso then hit into what should have been an inning-ending ground-out, but
Brent Ruminski sailed the throw the first to allow two runs to score unearned.
LVC got two consolation runs in the eighth when Wiest singled down the line to score #
Dustin Deibert# and
Ryan Schwartz, but Lawrence got out of trouble and then shut down LVC in the ninth to pick up his fifth complete game of the year.
The two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader Friday at noon in Reading, weather permitting.
