Box Score

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Lebanon Valley rallied late but fell short as it lost at DeSales University, 8-5, in non-conference play on Monday.

The Dutchmen (6-8) scored all five of their runs in the seventh inning after the Bulldogs (6-5) built up an 8-0 lead midway through the game.

Starter Shane Specht went five full innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits to take the loss. Nate Blough was solid in relief, throwing three innings of one-run ball.

DeSales combined five pitchers, with Chris Brian picking up the win with six innings of work. Joe Walsh threw the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

The Bulldogs went on top in the third went Specht's error allowed a run to score and a later wild pitch scored another run. Andrew Feher knocked in another on a ground-out to short later in the inning.

Carson Slonaker added another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly, and DeSales piled on four more runs over the fifth and sixth innings, including a three-run home run by Mike Bianca in the fifth.

LVC rallied in the seventh, loading the bases with none out to set up Brent Ruminski, who singled in a run to start. Aaron Mills drew a bases-loaded walk, and Colt Zarilla knocked in a run on the next at-bat. A wild pitch brought Ruminski home, and Joe Soupik doubled to left center to plate Mills.

The Dutchmen threatened to start another spurt in the ninth as Zarilla walked and reached third on a stolen base and a passed ball, but Walsh induced Soupik into a fly-out and then struck out Brandon Stoothoff to end the game.

LVC will visit King's College Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. start.
