ANNVILLE, Pa. - The LVC Gymnasium at Lebanon Valley College will be the venue for a two-game high school boys' basketball classic to support the James J. and Mary Edith Rhoades Foundation on Jan. 2, 2010.
Mahanoy Area will play Mt. Carmel at 5 p.m., and Lower Dauphin will take on Governor Mifflin at 6:30 p.m. at the LVC Gymnasium. Two-game admission will be $5 at the door.
The games will be held to support the Rhoades Foundation, which was created in memory of
State Sen. James J. Rhoades, who represented the 29th District until his death in an automobile accident in 2008. The foundation provides educational scholarships to high school students. Rhoades was the father of LVC basketball legend
Mike Rhoades '95, who led LVC to the 1994 NCAA Championship.
It will also be a homecoming for two members of that 1994 championship team as
Mark Hofsass '95 and
John Lazicki '96 bring their teams Annville. Hofsass, the coach of Lower Daupin, was the starting forward for the 1994 team and was a 1,000-point scorer in his career, while Lazicki, the head man at Mt. Carmel, was a key sophomore reserve on the championship team and went on to finish his career with 458 points and 386 rebounds at LVC.
