ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Basketball team had a strong second half, outscoring visiting Arcadia University 41-23, to defeat the Knights 73-65 on Senior Day at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon in Annville.
The Dutchmen (12-13, 6-8 MAC Freedom) end the year on a high note with a win while sweeping the season series over the Knights (12-13, 7-7 MAC Freedom). Arcadia held the Dutchmen scoreless for the first 4:30 while building an 8-0 lead. Senior
Braden Bohannon scored LVC's first points of the game with a big three out of a timeout. Timochenko put back an offensive rebound while being fouled. He missed the free throw but grabbed the rebound and passed the ball out to Bohannon at the three-point line who knocked down another three to tie the game up. The Knights knocked down a three to retake the lead before a jumper from Bohannon and fastbreak pull-up bucket from
Ryan Harder gave LVC the lead at 12-11. After a pair of stops on defense Harder hit a jumper to give the Dutchmen a three-point advantage with 12 minutes on the clock.
Arcadia tied the game up with another three and then retook the lead at 18-16 after a offensive put back.
Evin Timochenko scored on a driving layup while being fouled and made the free throw. The Knights used an 8-0 run behind a pair of threes to take a 26-19 advantage. After a pair of shots at the line by Harder, another three gave the Knights an eight-point lead. Harder knocked down a three off a pass by
Jason Penn but Arcadia answered with the next four points. Arcadia was able to increase the lead to 10 with under a minute to go in the half before a Bohannon free throw and a Timochenko jumper in the paint cut the deficit to seven. A three-pointer on the final play of the half gave the Knights a 42-32 lead heading into the break.
LVC came out strong to begin the second half with a big run.
Kyle Tang assisted on a pair of threes by Penn and Bohannon before Timochenko put back an offensive rebound forcing the Knights to call a timeout. The run continued out of the break as Tang found Bohannon open for the game-tying bucket. Harder then gave the Dutchmen the lead with a pull up jumper in the paint and then after another stop on defense the senior hit a three to make it 47-42 just four minutes into the second half. The Dutchmen held the Knights scoreless for nearly the first five minutes of the half before Arcadia scored on a driving layup. Things continued to go well for LVC as Timochenko hit a jumper and then answered an Arcadia three with a three of his own. The senior forward increased the lead to six with a bucket underneath.
The Knights were able to cut the deficit down to two before a Penn three-pointer gave LVC a 59-54 advantage with 7:33 left. Timochenko sent a cross-court pass to
Evan Smith who knocked down a big three with six minutes left to increase the lead to eight. Arcadia responded with the next nine points over a 90-second span to take a 63-62 advantage. Smith found Penn on the wing for a three to give the Dutchmen back the lead. The Dutchmen had a stop on defense and then Penn found Timochenko in the post for two points with two minutes on the clock. The lead was at two when Bohannon sent a pass to the right wing where Smith knocked down a big three with 1:35 left to make it a five-point game. Timochenko put the dagger in the knights with a turnaround jumper in the paint with under a minute left.
Inside the Box
- Timochenko recorded his ninth double-double of the year with game-highs of 22 points and 17 rebounds. The forward finishes his career with 925 points and 571 rebounds in just three years. He moved into 12th place in the record books for career rebounds passing Mark Hofsass and Dan Hogan.
- Bohannon wrapped up his career with 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals. The senior knocked down a trio of threes and was 3-5 at the line.
- Harder added 15 points and five rebounds to finish his career with 1,068 points and 489 rebounds. He moved pass five scorers in the record books with his 15 points and finishes 30th in program history in scoring.
- Penn was the fourth scorer in double figures with 14 points including four three-pointers. The guard also had four rebounds and two assists.
- Smith knocked down a pair of threes for six points.
- The Dutchmen had a 44-34 rebounding advantage and scored 21 second chance points.
- LVC shot nearly 50 percent in the second half and finished the game with a 42.9 shooting percentage.
