Box Score

ANNVILLE, Pa.
- Widener University belted 15 hits and a pair of home runs as it shutout Lebanon Valley College, 11-0, in Commonwealth Conference baseball action Friday at McGill Field.

The Dutchmen (11-22, 0-10 CC) will head to Widener (23-10, 4-6 CC) again tomorrow for a doubleheader before making the trip to Chester again on Tuesday for the conference's play-in game to the four-team championship tournament.

The game was the final at McGill Field for LVC seniors Corey Lamoureux, John Mentzer, and Andrew Pipkin. Mentzer reached a milestone in the game, becoming the first player in program history to accumulate 500 at-bats in a career.

Pipkin started the game, his first of the season, and was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits. Shane Specht gave up four more runs in an inning of relief, and Travis Smart was hit with three more in the final two innings.

Ryan Walter pitched a gem, going eight full and giving up six hits; Rich Brovero was perfect in the ninth.

LVC had plenty of opportunities, but hit into three double plays. After a solid start by Pipkin, Widener broke the game open in the sixth with back-to-back home runs to left by Colin McHale and Alex Neiman.

The Pride added four more runs in the seventh with a pair of two-run hits down the left field line by Mike Cahill and Neiman. In the eighth, Tom Mahoney advanced home on a balk by Smart, and Matt Fisher scored Pat Santry on a sacrifice fly.

LVC and Widener will meet again Saturday in Chester at noon.
