Track and Field Teams Win MAC Indoor Titles

READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley indoor track and field teams became the first to win both Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships for the first time since 2009 as the Dutchmen swept the team titles at the conference championship on Saturday afternoon at the Flynn PLEX on the campus of Alvernia University.
 
The men's squad ran away with its third consecutive indoor title, accumulating 135.5 points. Messiah University was a distant second with 90 points, while Widener University finished third with 85 points. The women's team won the program's fourth-ever title and first since 2014 with 107 points. They outpaced second-place Widener, which scored 83 points. Stevens Institute of Technology was third with 74 points. Messiah was the last school to sweep the indoor titles in the same year.
 
Leo Tirado and Colin Winters combined for 11 points in the men's 60-meter final. Tirado was third in 7.03 seconds to score six points, while Winters was right behind him in fourth at another time of 7.07 seconds to score five points. The women's squad scored nine points in the 60-meter finals as Ava Matter ran 7.99 seconds to finish third, while Gabby Welter finished sixth in 8.08 seconds. Matter scored six points for the Dutchmen while Welter scored three.
 
Matter won the 200 meters and scored 10 points with a career-best time of 26.11 seconds. Her time is second in program history. Tirado finished second in the men's 200 with a career-best time of 22.62 seconds to score eight points. His time is fourth in the school record books. Caleb Auzenne scored four points with a career-best time of 22.75 seconds to finish fifth. His time is fifth in the record books. Donovan Goundie just missed scoring as he finished ninth with a time of 23.09 seconds. Goundie then finished fifth in the 400 meters to score four points with a time of 51.35 seconds.
 
Elijah McKell finished third in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:55.33 to score six points. Owen Kreider was 13th as he crossed the line in 2:03.38. Autumn Garges scored four points in the women's 800 as she finished fifth with a time of 2:22.34. Sierra Kapcsos was eighth in 2:22.93 to score one point. Garges also had a strong race in the mile as she finished third to score six points with a time of 5:08.87. Abigail Hunt was sixth in 5:13.26 to score three points.
 
Joe Chukoskie led three Dutchmen on the medal stand in the men's 3000 meters with a third-place finish in 8:40.58 to score six points. Wyatt Leitzel was right on his heels in fourth to score five points with a time of 8:40.65. Andrew Namatka finished fifth with a time of 8:48.91 to score four points. Donnie Miller ran 9:11.21 to finish 16th. Coyla Bartholomew just missed the medal stand in the women's 3000, finishing ninth with a time of 10:40.20. Charlee Kurtz ran a time of 10:53.57 to finish 12th.
 
Joshua Leidich finished fifth in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 8.64 seconds to score four points. His time is seventh in the program record books. Lewis Dieffenbach scored one point with an eighth-place finish in 9.22 seconds. Anna Sawicki finished fifth in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.49 seconds to score four points. Mikayla Mitchell scored one point with a time of 9.84 seconds to finish eighth.
 
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Matter, Welter, Abbie Reed, and Mitchell closed out the meet with a win, scoring 10 points in 4:08.62. That time is seventh in the school record books. The men's team of Goundie, Hayden Milchanowski, Braden Smith, and Luke Macchione finished fourth to score five points with a time of 3:30.34. The women's 4x800 meter relay team of Kapcsos, Kaylee Senglar, Garges, and Hunt finished second in 9:48.81 to score eight points. Their time is third in program history. The men's squad of Sam Rothstein, Lukas Walko, Caden Bell, and McKell ran 8:03.15 to finish third and score six points. Their time is seventh in the program record books.
 
Emma Evan finished ninth in the pole vault with a height of 2.65 meters (8'8.25"). Luisanna Polanco fouled on all three of her attempts at 3.05 meters and did not record a mark. The Dutchmen scored 10 points in the women's triple jump. Tola Oyinkolade finished fourth to score five points with a mark of 10.70 meters (35'1.25") on her second jump. Chloe Grady was sixth with a career-best jump of 10.67 meters (35'0.25") on her sixth attempt to score three points. Her mark is sixth in the program record books. Hailey Myers had a career-best jump of 10.66 meters (34'11.75") on her sixth try to finish seventh and score two points. That mark is seventh in the record books. Alex Brown was 13th in the men's triple jump with a mark of 12.63 meters (41'5.25") on his second attempt. Evan Donough jumped 11.83 meters (38'9.75") on his third try to finish 20th, while Taijay Brown was 25th with a mark of 11.39 meters (37'4.5") on his second jump.
 
Aonghas Evanick scored one point in the men's shot put with a career-best throw of 14.04 meters (46'0.75") on his first toss to finish eighth. Bo Wheeler was 18th with a mark of 12.28 meters (40'3.5") on his first throw. Joie Connolly had a shot put throw of 8.82 meters (28'11.25") on her first attempt to finish 22nd.
 
Sawicki won her second consecutive conference title in the pentathlon with a school and meet record 3459 points. She bettered her previous personal best point total of 3333 points earlier this year and toppled her previous Championship record of 3331 points she recorded at last year's meet. Sawicki started the day with a time of 9.63 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to score 783 points. The sophomore then cleared a career-best 1.63 meters (5'4.25") in the high jump to score 771 points. Her height is third in the program record books. The sophomore then threw the shot put 11.00 meters (36'1.25") for 595 points. She had a career-best long jump of 5.28 meters (17'4") for 637 points and finished the day with a time of 2:31.63 in the 800 meters for 673 points. Her long jump mark is seventh in the program record books. Sawicki is currently ranked 13th in Division III in the pentathlon this year with a converted point total of 3480 for track size.
 
Graison Michajluk finished third in the heptathlon with a school record point total of 4309 points. He beat his previous record of 4170 from earlier this year. Michajluk began the day with a time of 9.76 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to score 587 points. He then cleared a career-best 3.70 meters (12'1.50") in the pole vault to score 535 points and finished the day with a time of 3:11.46 in the 1000 meters to score 556 points.
 
Ethan Rush finished 11th with a career-best 3710 points. His point total is seventh in the school record books. He ran a career-best time of 9.28 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to score 685 points. Rush then cleared a career-best 3.10 meters (10'2") in the pole vault to score 381 points and ran a career-best 3:13.63 in the 1000 to score 537 points. Marlon Perez was 13th with a point total of 3088. He ran a time of 10.59 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to score 435 in the first event of the day. Perez did not record a mark in the pole vault before ending the day with a career-best time of 3:08.30 in the 1000 to score 585 points.
 
The Dutchmen will next compete at the AARTFC Championships next weekend in New York City. Action will start on Friday, March 6, at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory and will conclude on Saturday.
