LA CROSSE, Wisc. – Anna Sawicki finished 14th in the heptathlon to earn Second Team All-America honors for the Lebanon Valley women's outdoor track and field team at the NCAA Division III National Championships this week at Veteran's Memorial Stadium on the campus of University of Wisconsin Lacrosse.
Sawicki scored 4681 points, her second-best total, in her third heptathlon in the past three weeks. The sophomore finished three places better than her seed of 17th after recording a program record total of 4740 points last week to win the title at the AARTFC Championships.
The sophomore started the competition with the 100-meter hurdles on Wednesday morning. She ran a career-best time of 15.55 seconds to score 770 points. Her time is sixth in the program record books and was 20th in field. She moved up in the standings with a season-best height of 1.59 meters (5'2.5") in the high jump to score 724 points. Sawicki had the fifth-best height in the field and moved all the way up to 13th place with 1494 points. She entered at 1.44 meters (4'8.75") and cleared easily on first attempt. Sawicki passed at 1.47 meters (4'9.75") before hitting 1.50 meters (4'11") on the first attempt. She cleared 1.53 meters (5'0.25") on the first attempt and the hit 1.56 meters (5'1.25") on her second attempt. The sophomore cleared 1.59 meters (5'2.5") on her first attempt before missing all three attempts at 1.62 meters (5'3.75").
Sawicki finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.45 meters (37'6.75") on her first throw to score 625 points and moved up to ninth with 2119 points. She had marks of 10.93 meters (35'10.5") and 10.74 meters (35'3") on her other two attempts. She finished the first day with a time of 26.95 seconds in the 200 meters to score 716 points. Sawicki moved down to 12th with score of 2835 points.
Her first event of day two was the long jump where she recorded a mark of 5.08 meters (16'8") on first jump to score 581 points. Her point total moved her down to 15th in the standings with 3416 points. Her other two jumps were 5.04 meters (16'6.5") and 5.05 meters (16'7"). The second event of the day was the javelin where she had a mark of 32.60 meters (106'11") on her third throw to finish seventh and score 526 points. The sophomore fouled her first attempt and hit 32.30 meters (106'0") on her second throw. She moved up to 14th in the standings at 3942 points. In the final event of the day, Sawicki ran a career-best time of 2:26.38 in the 800 meters to score 739 points and finish in 14th place.
Central College senior Olivia Bohlen won the event with a career-best total of 5158 points. Johns Hopkins sophomore Claudia Ouimet was second with 5079 points and Thomas College junior Emma Burr finished third with a career-best 5045 points.
