Sawicki Breaks Heptathlon Record at Messiah; Lieberman Breaks 5000 Record at Bucknell

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Lebanon Valley first-year Anna Sawicki broke the Women's Outdoor Track and Field program record in the heptathlon to lead the Dutchmen at the Messiah Invitational. Rory Lieberman also broke the Men's Outdoor Track and Field 5000 meters record at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic.
 
Sawicki qualified for the Middle Atlantic Conference and AARTFC Championships with a school record 4214 points to top the field on eight in the heptathlon. She crushed the old record of 3440 points that Taylor Gerchak scored in 2014. Sawicki had a couple of Top 10 individual marks as well during the event that was contested on Thursday and Friday. She started with a time of 16.35 seconds in the 100 hurdles to score 672 points. That time is ninth in the program record books. She then had a high jump height of 1.56 meters (1.25") for 689 points. That height is tied for 10th on the Top 10 list. Sawicki threw the shot put 10.67 meters (35'0.25") for 573 points and ran the 200 meters in 27.76 seconds for 650 points to close out the first day. On Friday, she began with a jump of 4.67 meters in the long jump for 472 points. Sawicki then threw the javelin 30.92 meters (101'5") for 494 points and finished strong by winning the 800 meters in 2:32.34 for 664 points. Lieberman finished eighth in the men's 5000 meters at Bucknell with a school record time of 14:21.74. He beat the previous record of 14:38.01 run by Noah Griffin in 2023.
 
Track Highlights
Owen Linder won the men's 200 meters with a career-best time of 22.08 seconds. His time moves him up to fourth from sixth in the program record books and qualifies him for the MAC Championships. Ava Matter finished fifth in the women's 200 meters with a time of 26.33 seconds. Darrian Berkheimer qualified for the MAC Championships in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.39 to finish third.
 
Abigail Hunt finished third in the women's 800 meters with a MAC qualifying time of 2:24.71. Lukas Walko finished fifth in the men's 1500 meters with a MAC qualifying time of 4:10.09. Andrew Namatka was seventh in 4:11.73.
 
Daniel Murtha finished second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.35 seconds in the final after running 15.40 seconds in preliminaries. Joshua Leidich crossed sixth in the final with a time of 16.15 seconds after running 16.59 seconds in prelims. Emma Bunty finished fourth in the women's 100 hurdles with a time of 17.11 seconds in the final after running 17.62 seconds in the prelims. Mikayla Mitchell ran 16.22 seconds in the prelims and then finished seventh in the final with a time of 23.99 seconds. Luke Macchione qualified for the MAC Championships in the men's 400 hurdles with a time of 58.33 seconds to finish third. Abbie Reed ran 1:07.21 in the women's 400 hurdles to finish second.
 
The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Donovan Goundie, Linder, Ayden Stankus, and Colin Winters won in an AARTFC qualifying time of 42.00 seconds. That time is second in program history. The women's 4x100 relay team of Berkheimer, Matter, Karina Reilly, and Mileyska Calderon crossed the line third with a time of 50.48 seconds.  The men's 4x800 meter relay team of Walko, Namatka, Caden Bell, and Alec Di Cesare finished second in 8:26.25 while the "B" team of Penn Smith, Jason Nester, Trevor Gipe, and Aden Davis were fourth in 8:53.65. The women's team of Hunt, Emily Miller, Kaylee Senglar, and Madison Sneath ran 10:47.63 to finish fourth.
 
A group of Dutchmen competed at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday and fared very well against strong competition. Kyrianna Nemitz had a time of 4:48.40 in the women's 1500 meters. Her time is ninth on the program's Top 10 list. Sierra Kapcsos was right behind her with a time of 4:50.53 which is 10th on the list. Coyla Bartholomew qualified for the MAC Championships in the 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 11:12.66. Elijah McKell ran a MAC qualifying time of 1:55.95 in the 800 meters. Sam Rothstein ran a career-best 800 time of 1:56.00. His time is eighth in the program record books. Joe Chukoskie had a career-best time of 14:27.48 in the men's 5000 meters. His time is second in the record books behind Lieberman. Eric Shelton ran a MAC qualifying and career-best time of 9:22.23 in the men's 3000 steeplechase. His time is third on the program's Top 10 list.
 
Field Highlights
Melena Koutch was second in the women's high jump with a height of 1.51 meters (4'11.5"). Emily Oriel was seventh at 1.41 meters (47.5"). Stankus finished third in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 4.47 meters (14'8"). Hailey Myers was sixth in the women's long jump with a mark of 4.93 meters (16'2.25") on her second jump. Tola Oyinkolade was seventh at 4.92 meters (16'1.75") on her second attempt.Alex Brown finished eighth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 12.65 meters (41'6") on his sixth jump. Myers was seventh in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.40 meters (34'1.5") on her fifth jump. Chloe Grady finished eighth at 9.98 meters (32'9") on her second try.
 
Aonghas Evanick was sixth in the men's shot put with a toss of 13.39 meters (43'11.25") on his sixth throw. He also finished seventh in the men's hammer with a mark of 46.42 meters (152'3") on his first attempt. Nick Guerieri finished eighth with a toss of 43.66 meters (143'3") on his third throw. Bo Wheeler qualified for the MAC Championships with a mark of 34.41 meters (112'11") on his third toss. Lauren Assante was fifth in the women's hammer with a throw of 40.00 meters (131'3") on her fourth toss. Michael De Falcis won the men's javelin with a mark of 57.80 meters (189'7") on his first throw of the day. Joie Connolly was fourth in the women's javelin with a throw of 33.52 meters (110'0") on her fourth attempt. Graison Michajluk qualified for the decathlon at the MAC Championships after running the 100 meters in 12.07 seconds. He has competed in eight different events this spring.

The Dutchmen will be in action twice next week starting with the York Twilight Meet on Wednesday at York College of Pennsylvania.
