Emily Oriel Breaks Pole Vault Record at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Emily Oriel set a new pole vault school record to highlight a great day for the Lebanon Valley women's outdoor track and field team on Saturday at the Messiah Invitational. The Dutchmen also had Lauren Bunke competing at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.
 
MAC AND AARTFC QUALIFIERS PLUS OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
Oriel finished second in the pole vault with a career best height of 3.42 meters (11'2.5") Rachel Snavely was fifth with an AARTFC qualifying and career best height of 3.27 meters (10'8.75"). Lauren Assante was seventh in the shot put with a toss of 10.93 meters (35'10.5"). Mackenze Spence threw the discus 36.72 meters (120'6") on Friday to finish seventh in the field of 37. Ashley Bartels had another strong day in the hammer with a toss of 40.34 meters (132'4") to finish fifth. She also finished on the podium in the javelin with a mark of 33.71 meters (110'7") to place sixth. Melena Koutch was third in the high jump with a height of 1.59 meters (5'2.5"). 
 
Darrian Berkheimer finished sixth out of 63 sprinters in the 200 meters with a career best wind-aided time of 26.19 seconds. Alyssa Peiffer was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.11. Bunke ran a career best 1500 meter time of 4:43.03 at Bucknell to qualify for both the MAC and AARTFC Championships. She finished ninth out of 15 runners in the second of nine heats.
 
INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
Oriel broke the previous record of 3.39 meters (11'1.5") that Alisha Farrell vaulted in 2013 with her height of 3.42 meters. She entered the day third on the list before recording her record vault. Bunke moved up from sixth to fourth on the 1500 list with her career best time of 4:43.03.
 
UP NEXT
The Dutchmen will have a few runners in action tomorrow evening at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic. The rest of the team will compete at Widener next weekend.
