Women’s Throwers Power Dutchmen on First Day of MAC Championships

READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's indoor track and field team put three throwers on the medal stand in the weight throw to highlight a strong start to the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Friday at Alvernia University.
 
The Dutchmen are fourth in the team standings after day one with 21 points. Misericordia University has 48 points to lead the field. Widener University is second with 33 points. Stevens Institute of Technology has 22 points and DeSales University rounds out the top five with 13 points.
 
LVC went 2-3-7 in the weight throw led by Ashley Bartels with a toss of 15.68 meters (51'5.50") on her third attempt. The senior scored a big eight points and earned All-MAC Second Team honors. Lauren Assante was third also earning All-MAC honors with a career best throw of 14.26 meters (46'9.50") on her sixth and final toss. Assante qualified for the AARTFC Championships with her mark and moved up to fifth from eighth on the program's top 10 list. Mackenze Spence also had a career best throw to finish seventh and score two points. She threw 13.72 meters (45'0.25") on her second attempt which is seventh in the school record books. Caroline Reed finished with a mark of 11.57 meters (37'11.50") on her first toss while Meghan Bussey had a career best mark of 11.29 meters (37'0.50") on her second toss.
 
On the track, Tori Hunyara just missed qualifying for the 60 meters finals with a time of 8.26 seconds to finish 10th. Her time moves her up from ninth to eighth in the school record books. She was third in her heat with her career best time. Anna Donnelly had a career best 5000-meter time of 20:12.21 to finish eighth in the first of two heats. She was 24th overall in the large field. The 4x200 relay team of Darrian Berkheimer, Alyssa Peiffer, Emily Oriel, and Tori Hunyara finished fourth with a time of 1:48.57. Their time is seventh in program history.
 
Competition will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday on the final day of the Championships.
