LANCASTER, Pa. –
Emily Oriel broke the Lebanon Valley women's indoor track and field pole vault record to highlight a great first meet of the season for the Dutchmen at the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin and Marshall on Friday.
TOP PERFORMANCES AND MAC QUALIFIERS
Oriel finished second in the pole vault with a height of 3.34 meters (10'11.5").
Rachel Snavely and
Sidney Wike tied for third at 2.89 meters (9'5.75"). All three were MAC qualifiers while Oriel was also an AARTFC-qualifying height. The Dutchmen throwers had an excellent day with four MAC qualifiers in the weight throw and five in the shot put.
Mackenze Spence was third in the weight throw with a toss of 13.09 meters (42'11.5") on her fifth attempt.
Lauren Assante was fourth with a mark of 12.86 meters (42'2.25") on her second toss.
Caroline Reed had a qualifying throw of 11.48 meters (37'8") on her sixth toss while
Meghan Bussey threw 11.09 meters (36'4.75") on her second attempt. In the shot put, Assante was third with a mark of 10.51 meters (34'5.75") on her fifth toss.
Alyssa Betz had a heave of 10.17 meters (33'4.5") on her sixth attempt, Reed threw 10.16 meters (33'4") on her second try,
Lauren Hafer qualified with a toss of 9.58 meters (31'5.25") on her first attempt, and Bussey threw 9.45 meters (31'0") on her second throw.
Grace Aplin qualified in the long jump and the triple jump. She had a mark of 4.51 meters (14'9.75") on her first long jump attempt and recorded a mark of 9.46 meters (31'0.5") on her third triple jump try.
Carolina Wegman and
Melena Koutch qualified for the MAC Championships in the high jump as both cleared 1.45 meters (4'9").
Darrian Berkheimer and
Tori Hunyara qualified in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. Berkheimer ran 8.34 seconds in the 60 while Hunyara crossed the line in 8.49 seconds. In the 200 meters Berkheimer was second with a time of 27.01 seconds while Hunyara ran 28.32 seconds.
Autumn Garges was fourth in the 1000 meters and the 3000 meters. In the 1000 meters Garges ran 3:25.95 and then she came back to run 11:58.02 in the 3000.
INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
Oriel broke the previous pole vault record of 3.30 meters (10'10") that Olivia Faloon accomplished in 2020. Berkheimer moved into ninth in the program top 10 list with her time of 8.34 seconds in the 60 meters. Garges entered the record books in the 1000 with ninth-best time.
UP NEXT
LVC will be off until January 13, 2023 when they host the annual Dutchmen Invitational inside the Arnold Sports Center.
