PREVIEW: Baseball to Take on Alvernia in Conference Semis

ANNVILLE, Pa. – No. 2 Lebanon Valley will take on No. 3 Alvernia in a best-of-three series beginning this Saturday when the Flying Dutchmen host the Golden Wolves in a doubleheader at McGill Field beginning at 11:30 a.m. The if-necessary game will take place on Sunday afternoon at Alvernia if each team wins a game on Saturday.
 
How They Got Here
LVC compiled a 17-9 overall record in the regular season and a 16-6 mark in conference action. Last weekend, in the MAC Commonwealth Quarterfinal Round, the Dutchmen defeated Stevenson University 5-3 and 8-3 to earn a trip to the semifinals. It was LVC's fifth and sixth straight victories over the Mustangs this season.
 
History vs. Alvernia
The Golden Wolves hold a daunting 41-9 overall record against LVC, however the two teams did not meet during the 2021 regular season. Alvernia has taken four consecutive games from the Dutchmen, and LVC's last win came on April 28, 2018.
 
Last Time We Faced Alvernia
Back in 2019, the Golden Wolves took all three games from the Dutchmen by scores of 17-12, 6-4, and 12-8.

As a team, the Dutchmen rank second in the MAC Commonwealth with a batting average of .321. and are also second with a team ERA of 4.17.
 
Individually, Mike Bulgia is fourth in the league with a .402 batting average and sixth with nine doubles. Conor Smith ranks second in the conference with five triples, while Bryan Towers is sixth with seven stolen bases.

The Golden Wolves rank third in the conference with a team batting average of .314. Alvernia's Michael Simmerman is first in earned-run average at 1.51 (35.2 IP), while his teammate, Shane Ostrowsky is fourth at 2.26 (51.2 IP). Graduate student Mike Cirilli is third with 35 runs scored and fourth in hits with 41.
