2019 HoF Inductees with others

LVC Athletics Enshrines Hall of Fame Class of 2019

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley College inducted its Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019 on Friday evening, Oct. 11, enshrining six new individuals into its distinguished ranks.
 
Men's basketball and baseball's Daryl Hess '90, field hockey's Alexandra Wolfe Hodge '09, former softball head coach Stacey Hollinger, baseball's John Mentzer '08, men's basketball's Andy Panko '99, and men's tennis' Dr. Josh Shellenberger '99 were honored inside Sorrentino Gymnasium on Friday night. In addition to the six inductees, LVC's 1969 football team and 1998-99 men's basketball teams were honored. The 1969 football team were MAC Tri-Champions, while the men's basketball team earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
 
Each inductee had a video introduction, which can be viewed below or on the GoDutchmen.com YouTube channel, aired prior to their acceptance. Each inductee's acceptance speech can also be seen below.
 
The purpose of the Lebanon Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Lebanon Valley College Athletics. These individuals have helped bring recognition, honor, distinction, and excellence to Lebanon Valley College and its intercollegiate athletics program. Former athletes must have graduated at least 10 years earlier to be eligible for election.
 
Daryl Hess '90 – Men's Basketball, Baseball
A member of LVC's men's basketball's 1,000-point club, Daryl Hess earned the team MVP award in the 1989–90 season, a campaign in which the Dutchmen captured the ECAC Championship. In 1989, Hess was awarded LVC's Chuck Maston Award, an honor given annually to a male member of a varsity team who displays the exceptional qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, cooperation, and spirit, and the Merle L. Wise '53 Memorial Fund Award. In 1990, the Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame honored Hess with its Senior Collegiate Athlete Award. After graduating, Hess became an assistant coach for two seasons, including during LVC's memorable NCAA Division III National Championship in 1994. Hess also played baseball for the Dutchmen and was a two-year captain. In 1989, he was team MVP, an ECAC DIII Southern Region All-Star (pitcher), and a Middle Atlantic Conference First Team selection.
 


 
Alexandra Wolfe Hodge '09 – Field Hockey
Alex Wolfe-Hodge earned a plethora of honors throughout her impressive career at Lebanon Valley. She ranks eighth on LVC's 100-point scorer list and eighth on the 50-goal scorer list. She's third all-time in assists and was a two-time All-American (2007, 2008). She earned All-Region recognition, was a MAC Player of the Year, and landed on the NCAA All-Tournament Team. She participated in the NFHCA North/South Senior All-Star game and earned the NCAA Post Grad Scholar Award, as well as the MASCAC Scholar-Athlete Award.
 


 
Stacey Hollinger – Former Head Softball Coach
Stacey Hollinger, LVC's associate director of athletics and senior women's administrator, is the all-time winningest coach in LVC history with 428 wins after 19 incredibly successful years at the helm of the softball program. She's an eight-time MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year and four-time MAC Commonwealth champion. During her coaching career, she made five NCAA Tournament appearances and coached four All-Americans and three Academic All-Americans. Hollinger also was an assistant coach for the College during the field hockey program's most successful era, which included a pair of NCAA Final Four appearances.
 


 
John Mentzer '08 – Baseball, Men's Soccer
LVC baseball's all-time hits, RBI, games played, games started, and total bases leader, John Mentzer was one of the best to suit up for the Dutchmen. In 2007, he was named the MAC Player of the Year and landed on the All-Conference First Team. He ranked 13th in NCAA DIII in RBI (54) and had the second-longest Division III hitting streak for the year at 31 consecutive games. In 2008, he earned Second Team All-Conference recognition and became just the third player in program history to hit for the cycle. For his efforts, he was named to the MAC All-Century Team. Mentzer was also a three-year starter between the pipes for LVC's men's soccer team. He ranks sixth all-time in saves, fourth in wins, and fourth in shutouts.
 


 
Andy Panko '99 – Men's Basketball
Lebanon Valley's all-time leading scorer in men's basketball, Andy Panko was one of the greatest Division Three athletes of all time. During his time at LVC, Panko scored 2,515 points and was named to the d3hoops.com's "Team of the Decade" in 2010. During his time at LVC, Panko scored over 40 points in a game on four separate occasions, including 58 points against Juniata, which is still an LVC record to this day. He was twice named the NCAA Division Three National Player of the Year and was tabbed an NABC All-American three times. Upon graduation, Panko caught on as a star with the minor-league North Dakota Wizards, where he was named MVP of the CBA in 2003 before moving to Spain. In 2012, Panko earned the Spanish ACB's most valuable player award, a league that is widely regarded as the world's second-best professions league behind the NBA.
 


 
Dr. Matthew Joshua Shellenberger '99 – Men's Tennis
Dr. Josh Shellenberger will go down as one of LVC's best men's tennis players. Throughout his collegiate tennis career, Shellenberger played at No. 1 singles for the Dutchmen. In 1998 and 1999, he reached the MAC Finals, and after his time at LVC, he was the program's all-time leader in singles and doubles wins. He ended his career with an incredible 63–18 record and was named a GTE Academic All-American. Shellenberger will become just the second-ever men's tennis player to be inducted into LVC's Athletic Hall of Fame.
 


 
In addition to the six inductees comprising this year's Lebanon Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame Class, the school also honored the 1969 football and 1998-99 men's basketball team. The football team earned MAC Tri-Champion honors, while the men's basketball squad earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
