Women's Tennis Clinches Spot In Conference Championship, Graeff Earns 100th Win

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley defeated conference foe Lycoming 5-1 at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon, earning a spot in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Match for the first time since the 2014-15 season. In doing so, LVC head coach Joy Graeff earned the 100th victory of her career since taking the helm of the program in 2009.

The Flying Dutchmen (14-4) got off to a good start and claimed a 2-1 advantage after doubles play. The team's first victory came when Melanie Haas and Elise Hanks-Witaszek topped Kimberleigh Parroccini and Brittany Lenze 8-4 in the third contest. LVC's top duo of Marla Scacchitti and Rebecca Pierpont showed grit in battling back from an early deficit before going over Sophie Herzing and Kaitlin Hallbuk 9-7 in the final doubles match to finish.

Haas picked up Lebanon Valley's first victory of singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Hallbuk in a battle of each team's No. 3 players, while Elizabeth Drda made it a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Parroccini in the fifth solo outing. Pierpont, Megan Williams, and Alyssa Potosnak all held wide advantages in their singles matchups but it was Pierpont who concluded first. Her 6-4, 6-4 victory over Herzing in the No. 2 contest sealed the playoff win for LVC and the 100th victory of her career for Graeff.

The Dutchmen, the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament's top seed, advance to the title match and will face Messiah, the tourney's No. 2 seed, at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. LVC earned a thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Falcons in the teams' only meeting earlier this spring.
