Dutchmen Women’s Tennis Advances to MAC Freedom Title Match with Victory over Misericordia

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Tennis team will play for the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom title on Saturday after defeating third-seeded Misericordia University 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the MAC Freedom Semifinals at the Shankroff Tennis Center.
 
The Dutchmen (12-8) won the doubles point to start the match with win at courts one and three. LVC then won the first set in five of the six singles matches with Katie Berra, Sarah McComas, and Megan Martin being the first three courts to win a second set to clinch the match victory. All three unfinished matches were either in or headed towards a third set.
 
Inside the Box
  • Sarah Kramer and McComas made quick work at number one doubles with a 6-0 victory after dropping their match to the Cougars' top doubles team on Sunday. They improved to 2-4 as doubles partners this year.
  • Berra and Martin clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at number three. The pairing won their third consecutive match and improved to 6-1 on the season.
  • Erika Badner and Catherine Stone were in a tight match but were down 5-4 when the doubles point was clinched, and their match went unfinished.
  • Berra won her 10th consecutive singles match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number five. She was the first court to finish as she improved to 11-3 and 6-0 at number five.
  • McComas put the Dutchmen on the verge of winning with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number one. She won her fifth consecutive match to improve to 8-14 on the year.
  • Martin was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at number four to clinch the match victory and send the Dutchmen to the Final. The sophomore improved to 8-6 on the year including a 6-5 record at number four.
  • Stone dropped her first set 6-3 at number two singles but came back to win the second set 6-4. The third set was not started as the match was clinched.
  • Badner was also in between sets when the match was clinched. She won her first set 6-1 and dropped the second set 7-5 at number three.
  • Kramer rallied from an early deficit to take her first set 6-4 at number six. After dropping her second set 6-2, she was up 5-0 in the third set when the match was clinched.
  • The Dutchmen advanced to the MAC Freedom Final for the first time in program history and their third conference final in the past four years.
Up Next
LVC will take on top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at the Bayonne Tennis Courts in Bayonne, New Jersey. The Ducks were 4-0 winners over Arcadia University in the other semifinal match on Wednesday. The start time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
