ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's tennis team finished off its regular season with a 6-3 victory over conference rival Stevenson at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Flying Dutchmen (11-5, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play thanks to victories by the teams of
Jonathan Hastings and
Jordan Heavel, as well as
Elliott Kleckner and
Reed Morris. Hastings and Heavel defeated the Mustangs' Peter Appiah and Mike Richmond 8-1 in the second matchup, while Kleckner and Morris handled Doug Vaughn and Tony Beres 8-4 in the No. 3 outing.
Hastings, the reigning MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week, had to work hard to take down Wornden Ly 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in a three-set battle between each team's No. 2 solo player, while Morris aslo had to go three sets and overcome an early deficit with a 6-7, 7-5, 6-0 win over Vaughn in the third matchup.
It was all
Blake Martin in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Appiah in the No. 4 contest and Heavel wasted little time in defeating Kevin Slujtner 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth matchup.
With the victory, Lebanon Valley secured the No. 2 seed in the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament. The Dutchmen will host the same Stevenson squad they defeated on Saturday for semifinal action at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.
