ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley turned in a number of strong efforts but was ultimately edged 5-4 by MAC Commonwealth rival Albright on Saturday afternoon.
The Flying Dutchmen (2-11, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play thanks to victories by the teams of
Cody Manmiller and
Jonathan Hastings, and
Jordan Heavel and
Elliott Kleckner. Manmiller and Hastings bested the Lions number two duo of Evan Cuff and Joey Olkusz 8-2, while Heavel and Kleckner topped Albright's Dylan Rutt and Colemann Mitchell 8-3 in the number three matchup.
In singles play, the Lions (2-11, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) were able to pick up four crucial wins that proved the difference in the tight contest. Kleckner worked hard to earn a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Rutt in the four slot and Heavel handled Mitchell 6-1, 6-1 in the number five matchup.
Hastings, LVC's number two solo player, took Cuff to a seventh set before bowing out 6-2, 7-5, as did Manmiller in a 6-2, 7-6 defeat at the hands of Ken Richardson, Albright's number three.
Joel Eisenhower won the first set before falling to Olkusz 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the number six pairing.
Lebanon Valley is back on the court on Wednesday afternoon when the team travels to Lycoming for another conference matchup at 4 p.m.
