Messiah 8, Lebanon Valley 1
ANNVILLE, Pa. - In a preview of the upcoming Commonwealth Conference semifinals, top-seeded Messiah dealt Lebanon Valley an 8-1 loss in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
The Dutchmen (6-8, 3-3 CC) will turn around and visit Messiah Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. for a semifinal as the #4 seed in the tournament.
Sam Calabria secured LVC's only point, gutting out a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 3 singles, but LVC battled all day long as they dropped three matches in three sets.
Ryan Weitzel came back from a first-set tiebreak loss to force a third but fell in a very close match with Michael Brookhart, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (8-6).
Andrew Wilson was also close, but fell 6-7 (4), 6-0, 10-7 to Devin Esch, and
Cody Manmiller also went long in a 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 loss at No. 5 to Chris Brittingham.
Messiah won all three doubles flights in battles, with 8-6 scorelines at Nos. 1 and 2 and an 8-5 result at No. 3.
