Lebanon Valley 8, Lycoming 1
Photo GalleryANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley clinched its seventh consecutive berth to the Commonwealth Conference tournament, dispatching Lycoming 8-1 to earn a postseason spot.
The Dutchmen (6-6, 3-2 CC) will be either the third or fourth seed in the tournament after Messiah beat Alvernia on Monday in a battle for first place; LVC will host Messiah Saturday, with the result of that match and Elizabethtown's final two matches determining the final seedings.
A short-handed Lycoming team forfeited No. 3 doubles and a pair of singles matches, leaving LVC needing only two points to clinch the match, which it did in doubles with a quick 8-1 win by
Ryan Weitzel and
Jordan Shankroff at No. 1, and a hard-fought 9-8 (5) tiebreak victory for
Nick Jones and
Jonathan Hastings at No. 2, marking Jones' first collegiate victory.
In singles, Weitzel won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1, Wilson was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 2, and
Christian Grove won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3. Lycoming's Jordan Dubinsky won their lone point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
LVC will host Penn State Harrisburg Tuesday.
