Lebanon Valley 17, Wilkes 8
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Freshman
Dylan Tamecki hit for the cycle and had 10 RBI as Lebanon Valley won a 17-8 slugfest at Wilkes.
Tamecki's cycle is only the third in program history and first since John Mentzer '08 did it in the 2008 season opener. His 10 RBI were the most in a game since Tim Rink '03 did the same in 2003, and he actually recorded an RBI cycle, as well - an RBI single, a bases-loaded double, an RBI triple, and a grand slam.
He wasn't the only one to have a big day at the plate for LVC (6-14), as
Mike Specht went 2-for-4 with a walk and scored five runs,
Andrew DeCew was 3-for-6 with an RBI, and
Corey Cinicola knocked in a pair of runs.
Derek Brousseau picked up his first win of the year, going six innings and striking out seven.
Jason Barthold and
Brett Fundell were effective in relief. Wilkes' Eric Hauer was chased in the second inning to take the loss.
Tamecki started the scoring with an RBI single in the first and
Jordan Higgins added another on the next at-bat, and DeCew sparked a seven-run rally in the second that included Tamecki's grand slam and a Cinicola sacrifice fly. Wilkes got three runs back in the third, but Tamecki's RBI triple to plate Specht in the fourth put LVC ahead 10-3.
Nick Craig put two runs across in the fifth to tighten the lead to 10-5 before Tamecki again started a big inning for LVC with an RBI single, followed by knocks from Cinicola and Andrew Wooley to put the game out of reach at 13-5. Tamecki added a bases-loaded double in the seventh and
John Hildebrand's base hit in the eighth closed out the scoring.
LVC will host Messiah for the start of a three-game weekend set on Friday.
