M. Tennis Clinches Playoff Berth at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - A doubles sweep helped Lebanon Valley win a 6-3 battle over Lycoming, clinching a berth in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs in the process.

The Dutchmen (15-5, 4-1 CC) will make their fifth consecutive appearance in the CC team tournament. The win clinched the #2 seed, and LVC will host a semifinal on May 2.

Doubles keyed the victory as Ethan Grodzinski and Roger Van Scyoc improved to 11-3 with a win over Jason Mifsud and Cody Heffner, 8-4, at No. 1, and Ryan Weitzel and Joel Ramos topped Frankie Casale and Devin Rachael 8-3 at No. 2. Kyle Kahl and Sam Calabria won their ninth in a row, 8-2, against Chris Connolly and Jack Port.

Singles saw a number of close matches, including a three-set epic at No. 1 and a pair of tiebroken sets at No. 4. LVC's wins came at Nos. 2, 5, and 6, with Van Scyoc handling Heffner 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2, Ramos blanking Connolly 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Calabria moving to 17-5 with an 8-2 pro-set win at No. 6.

Lycoming's points came thanks to Mifsud at No. 1, who rallied against Grodzinski 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, Casale at No. 3 with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Weitzel, and Rachael at No. 4, who outlasted Kahl 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (5) at No. 4.

LVC will close the regular season by hosting Albright on Wednesday.
